Plan securities transfers using ownership settlement custody and fee conditions
Identifier: C5T7L2 · Revision: 2026-10-26 · Classification: domestic
Decision and objectives
The practical task is to plan an authorized securities transfer using ownership and subaccount facts. Make the decision reproducible: name the exposure, time horizon, cash requirement and comparison baseline before selecting a product.
Objectives: Plan an authorized securities transfer using ownership and subaccount facts; Reconcile quantity, fees and retained obligations; Preserve acquisition and custody evidence across intermediaries.
Prerequisite: C5T7L1; completed Classes 1–4 and the Stock Market School foundation or Forex School foundation. Every example is hypothetical. Prices, dates, rates, fees, contract factors, policies and tax schedules are supplied teaching inputs, not current offers or legal parameters. No live account is needed.
Mechanics
A securities transfer changes the custody location or account record; whether beneficial ownership changes depends on the instruction. Same-owner transfer is not a sale merely because securities leave one intermediary, but the actual tax and reporting consequences still require facts and rules. A transfer between different owners can have sale, gift, inheritance or other legal characteristics and cannot borrow the same operational assumptions.
Check settled quantity, investor identity, instrument eligibility, restrictions, receiving institution support, fee schedule and outstanding delivery/collateral obligations. MKK describes a route for investor-blocked holdings to transfer to the investor's own account while blocked through member instructions; it is not blanket permission to transfer pledged or third-party-owned securities.
Price and return drivers
Transferable quantity under a supplied policy = eligible settled free units plus specifically permitted blocked-own-account units, less quantities reserved for pending obligations. Pledged units require the relevant release/consent process. A transfer changes neither acquisition date nor cost basis by arithmetic alone; carry records and resolve tax treatment rather than reset them to the transfer date.
Worked case
Hypothetical 1,000 settled shares: 700 free, 200 investor-blocked, 100 pledged. Same-owner destination confirms support for blocked transfer. Keep 100 free shares for an already planned delivery and leave the 100 pledged unchanged. Candidate transfer = 600 free + 200 blocked = 800, leaving 200 at the origin. Supplied fee TRY 120 fixed plus TRY 0.05/share gives TRY 160, paid from separate cash. No security sale price or investment profit is created by this instruction. Before movement preserve original lot dates, total recorded acquisition cost TRY 40,000 and quantities; a proportional teaching allocation attaches TRY 32,000 cost to 800 transferred shares, subject to actual lot-selection requirements.
Adverse case
If the destination is a different beneficial owner or cannot maintain the block, the assumed own-account route fails. If the 200 blocked shares must first be released and broker records have not synchronized, a pending release is not 200 available units. If the origin instead has only 500 settled free units and 200 blocked supported, the planned 800 exceeds the permitted 700 by 100 before reserving any delivery. Cancel or resize rather than rely on a future purchase settling on time.
Practical use
Obtain member instructions and confirmations from both sides, including legal identity, account references, security identifier, free/blocked status, fees, deadlines and acceptance. Check current MKK rules and amendments; no universal cutoff or live tariff is asserted. Reconcile outgoing and incoming records after completion, preserve lot/cash evidence and check any change-of-owner tax/legal requirements separately.
Use permitted domestic access routes and the actual instrument documents. Verify intermediary authority, investor eligibility, order/redemption terms, settlement, custody and executable size before implementation. Reconcile spread and commissions, funding, collateral, custody, product expenses, conversion and exit charges; an amount already embedded in a fill or fund unit price is not deducted again. A published mark or product description does not promise an executable price or liquidity.
Tax is excluded unless a numerical schedule is expressly supplied as hypothetical. For actual rules record income year, residence and individual/corporate status, instrument and acquisition/contract dates, taxable event and rule effective date. The GIB investment-income guide, checked 2026-10-26, covers 2025 individual income; its 2026 publication date alone cannot settle a 2026 liability.
Decision boundaries
Use a transfer when custody, costs or service needs justify it and settlement obligations remain covered. Avoid moving collateral that supports an open loan or derivative without verified replacement and consent. Defer if destination ownership, receiving eligibility or the blocked/pledged treatment is unresolved.
Practice and references
Exercise: hypothetical 900 settled units, 150 pledged, 250 investor-blocked permitted for same-owner transfer, 100 free units reserved. Solution: free units 500; available free 400; adding 250 blocked gives maximum 650. With fixed TRY 80 plus TRY 0.10/unit fee, transferring 650 costs TRY 145. No gain is inferred from the custody movement.
Takeaway: Preserve acquisition and custody evidence across intermediaries with the cash dates, costs and remaining risks stated.
