Decision and objectives

Practical task: Select a wrapper for an emergency reserve and a separate long-horizon allocation

Objectives: Filter wrappers by eligibility and withdrawal requirements; Compare fee boundaries on a common horizon; Document a justified rejection and a suitable positive choice.

Required prior knowledge: C1T7L4. Classification: domestic. Revision: 2026-10-26. All fictional names, prices, rates, fees, calendars and tax schedules below are hypothetical unless explicitly identified as a dated document observation.

A wrapper comparison begins with feasibility, then economics. A high expected return from an inaccessible fund is not an available alternative. A legal exit right without a credible timetable is not a reserve. Filter eligibility, contractual funding and cash dates before ranking costs and expected results.

Mechanics

Ordinary funds, free funds, property funds, venture funds and pension funds create different combinations of access and investor operations. Do not assume an ordinary wrapper's dealing frequency applies to a restricted vehicle. A property fund can depend on asset sales; a venture commitment can require future calls; a pension account can separate internal fund switching from cash withdrawal. Product documents and current rules determine the actual conditions.

Prepare one row per candidate with investor status, required initial cash, additional commitment, earliest reliable exit, valuation frequency, embedded costs, investor costs and tax facts still needed. If a field is unknown, mark it unresolved; do not replace it with zero or “liquid.”

Price and return drivers

For a common horizon, compare net cash only among feasible candidates. Costs should be allocated by their actual base: a fee on committed capital differs from one on NAV, and a penalty on redemption differs from an embedded expense. Tax must follow the investor's claim and conditions rather than a universal wrapper percentage. A scenario return on a stated terminal value is not a guarantee that a fund can pay it then.

Worked case

Hypothetical investor has TRY 200,000: TRY 80,000 needed in one month and TRY 120,000 genuinely flexible for five years. Ordinary Fund O is available and confirms the one-month exit process; supplied redemption value for an TRY 80,000 position is TRY 80,800 already after embedded fees. Investor charge TRY 20 and invented tax 10% of the TRY 800 gain leave TRY 80,700.

Restricted Fund R has an attractive scenario but the investor's qualification is unverified and the fictional fund locks withdrawals for a year. It fails the reserve before return analysis. Venture Fund V is available only if eligibility is verified and requires TRY 60,000 paid now plus an irrevocable TRY 60,000 future call. Treat the full TRY 120,000 as committed, with half retained accessibly for calls. A pension choice may serve the long-term objective, but its benefit conditions must be read separately. The positive reserve decision is O only if its remaining risks are acceptable; immediately accessible cash remains the baseline.

Adverse case

O's redemption value instead falls to TRY 79,200, with TRY 20 charge and no tax on loss under the invented schedule. Net is TRY 79,180, a TRY 820 shortfall versus the required TRY 80,000. Even O can fail a hard nominal guarantee requirement. If the investor also spends V's TRY 60,000 call reserve, an immediate full call creates a TRY 60,000 funding problem. A high residual valuation of V cannot be substituted for liquid call cash.

Practical use

Verify current access with the authorized institution and exact documents. On 2026-10-26, SPK changed qualification criteria; this lesson avoids numeric thresholds and prior-exception assumptions. Check ordinary-fund exit terms, restricted-fund notices/gates, venture-call documents and pension withdrawal rules. Costs must include embedded fees once, investor charges, penalties, financing if any and taxes with income year, status, acquisition/contribution dates and effective rule. The invented schedule above does not imply equal Turkish taxation across wrappers.

Decision boundaries

A feasible long-horizon wrapper may be unsuitable for an emergency bucket. Keeping those purposes separate reduces forced-sale and funding risk. Decline R for the reserve because both eligibility and timing fail; do not reject V automatically if the flexible investor is eligible and can fund its commitments. If the nominal reserve cannot tolerate O's stress, retain sufficient confirmed bank cash or another suitably protected arrangement after checking its legal scope. A reasoned comparison can produce different products for different buckets.

Practice and references

Exercise: hypothetical accessible reserve target TRY 50,000. Fund A's stressed redemption is TRY 49,500 less TRY 25 charge; restricted Fund B cannot redeem for six months. Answer: A leaves TRY 49,475 and a TRY 525 shortfall; B fails timing regardless of its reported NAV. A separate venture commitment of TRY 100,000 with TRY 40,000 called leaves TRY 60,000 uncalled; it cannot all be treated as uncommitted spending money. Choose a reserve baseline that actually meets the supplied constraint.

Takeaway: feasibility is the first comparison, and each cash purpose needs its own suitable wrapper.
